Understanding the Functionality of Constant Force Springs

Constant force springs, also called constant tension springs, are mechanical devices that provide a constant, linear force throughout their range of motion. They are used in a variety of applications where a consistent force is needed, such as in retractable cords, counterbalances, and spring-loaded assemblies.

The basic design of a constant force spring consists of a flat strip of spring steel wound into a spiral shape.
