Different types of springs and their applications

A spring is a very important mechanical component used in many products to affect motion, improve shock absorption, etc. In other words, rapid prototyping services such as 3D printing and CNC machining can create different types of springs that can be used to influence and manufacture products such as watches and mobile phones.

Some of the most widely used products incorporate springs into their designs. This requires knowledge and selection, which requires an understanding of springs and their applications.
Therefore, this article discusses springs, their advantages and disadvantages, as well as the different types of springs and their applications.

Let’s start with spring. A spring is a device that stores energy when a force (from a load) is applied and releases energy when the load is removed. Under normal conditions, regardless of the type of spring used in the product, the spring returns to its original shape when the load is removed.

The use of springs in any product is based on Hooke’s law. Hooke’s Law simply states the relationship between the “force” applied to a spring and its elasticity. Simply put, Hooke’s Law states that the force required to compress and stretch a spring is proportional to the displacement of the spring.

Different types of springs and their applications

Springs are made of different materials, shapes, functions, etc. and thus require a wide variety of applications. Spring is divided into three main classes, each of which has different subclasses.

1. Torsion spring

The two ends of the torsion spring are connected to two different components. This separates the two components at an angle. These springs use radial when a radial force is generated due to rotation. What’s more, CNC machining capabilities allow mass production of customized two-body torsion springs.

2. Coil spring

Coil springs are made from rectangular metal strips wound into a flat coil. When activated, it stores a moderate amount of energy and releases it at a constant rate. The continuous release makes it suitable for mechanical watches, toys and seat recliners.

3. Constante krachtveer

Constant force springs (or constant moment springs) get their name from the fact that their force of motion is constant. The load is determined by the width and thickness of the material and the diameter of the coil. Constant force springs can be mounted in a variety of ways, can be partially or fully extended, and can be used in a variety of applications because they are not limited by the speed and acceleration of extension.

Different springs have different functions, choose the spring that suits you.
