 Small engines are well known and are commonly used in lawn mowers and garden tractors and various other garden and lawn maintenance tools, in addition to other environments. Typically, each of these engines is equipped with a recoil starting system that includes a rope that rotates the starting mechanism to engage a flywheel that is connected to the engine for starting purposes. Once the rope starter is pulled, the recoil mechanism is always provided with the engine to reel the starter rope back to the starting mechanism.

  The recoil portion of the starter mechanism is operated by a power spring that tensions when the operator pulls on the starter rope. Once the rope is fully pulled, the operator releases it. Most power springs on the market often fail, so the recoil rewinding mechanism needs to be disassembled and the spring replaced.
And replacing the spring is a tedious task because the operator needs to keep the spring in the cavity inside the recoil starter pulley and then coil the spring into the pulley mechanism while keeping the spring in the coiled position and under sufficient tension. Such a procedure requires not only skill, but sometimes infinite patience.
